It's hard to build something right without at least looking at what other people did.  So in tribute to these individuals, I have compiled a list of sources that have helped me in the completion of my own garden railway.  Some of these individuals are anonymous to me, but there sites have definatly helped me figure out whats best:

  • http://riksrailway.blogspot.com  This site was created by the Blogger name of GE RIK.  He also has some favorite blogs of his own which maybe helpful to many people.  The site follows the development of the Peckforton Railway in England.  this site is several years old now, so it has a wealth of information.
  • http://www.largescaleonline.com/  Want to join an online club for a small price to get all the info you want?  Then click here to find out more.
  • http://www.mylargescale.com  Another online club/ chat forum.  There are plenty of knowledgeable railroaders who will answer all you questions, and its free!
  • http://www.thortrains.net/  Stuck on a track plan?  This site has a lot of track plans for all scales, including large scale.  Thor, the man who ran the site, was kind enough to include track prices for the various designs.  Unfortunately, these are prices from before the copper prices spiked, so they are about 50% too low now-a-days.
  • http://personalweb.donet.com/~paulrace/trains/index.htm  Written mostly by Paul D. Race, this site is by far one of the most complete sites around for Garden Railroading.  Paul, as well as a couple other authors, have addressed almost every question, comment, or issue on this site from track ideas, to placing plants in a garden railroad.  Paul also included references to other sites which he found helpful too.
  • http://grw.trains.com/  As the best Garden Railroad Magazine ever, Garden Railways Magazine  also has one of the best websites.  their subscription prices are actually quite low compared to their sister magazines, and the news letter they send out bi-monthly is full of information.
  • And finally, there was a book written a while back, which you may still be able to find on www.amazon.com by Jack Verducci about building garden railroads titled, "How to Design and Build Your Garden Railroad."  Jack's own railway has been documented on the internet here by an unknown author.
these are the sites I have found most helpful, with the most variety in them.  There are many more sites out there that can be helpful to certain people, but I recommend these websites to begin exploring this vast hobby.
